No no no! A dictionary has a lot more words than that. From 50 000 to about 600 000. An Oxford is proably the best choice.

different dictionaries have different amount of words, school size, univeristiy size and a reference size which our university library has it weights is about 5 to 10 lbs.
most dictionaries need to have at least 10,000 words to be useable by school children, the bigger your vocabulary the bigger the dictionary.

I have seen dictionaries with an excess of 200,000 words.. A vocabulary of around 60,000 words is considered PHD graduate material, so for most people, something around 50,000 words should be more than plenty.
Your usual paper-back dictionaries (as far as I know) are around 30,000 - 40,000 usually.
Pocket dictionaries often include around 10,000 to 20,000 words. A recent children's dictionary I looked at had 5,000

Present-day dictionaries have become corrupted by liberals. They have altered the language and there are some co-called words in there that aren't even valid words.
