does the engine m40 have hydrobollok tappets or solid an what are the settings if solid.cheers.

If I remember rightly its normal tappets. It will normally sound tappety, M40 engine was renowned for it. Nothing to worry about. Some suggest setting them with the engine hot to get the correct setting. Your BMW garage will be able to give you the exact guage.
