I have been working in an office for over 2 years now, and I'm considering working from home, as the business is the type which works online.

I have hardly any visitors to the office itself, and there is no real need to pay the 450 bucks every month as the rent!!!

I'm just slightly worried about the idea of working from home - there would be no kinda "push" or drive to get up and go to work, and I might feel a bit isolated sitting at home all day.

Can anyone who works from home, or has made the move, please say whether it's a bad idea or not????

Thanks so much anyway!!

I would work from home - absolutely. Who wouldn't love to work in their jammies?!

Seriously, if you get much of your social interaction from working in the office, you'll either want to STAY in the office, or get a richer social life.

If you have hubby/wife/kids/roommate at home, you may have trouble concentrating.

If you have a room you can dedicate as your home-office and keep a schedule - literally think about it like "going" to work...you should be fine at home. Save the $450!

I think it's the only way to go. The biggest key is to treat it like a business. Set up 'working' hours and stick to them. If you commit to a schedule and keep it, it will have the structured feeling that you need to keep the 'push' on. Set up attainable daily/weekly goals that you would have been able to accomplish in the office setting. if you're meeting those, you're in a good place.

you may start to find (like I did) that you actually can get more work done in less time. I got away from the phones and stuff from the office.. but I had several others in there with me.

Long story short, keep a schedule that you commit to. If you do that, you should enjoy the transition!

last 8 yrs, i've worked from (out) of house.
when meeting people we do lunch early(10:30- 11:30)am or brunch.
do set aside one area where it is professional to keep your mindset as such. do demand family recognize when you are there Nothing (except fire or bleeding of kids or house) is important.
get separate phone line for business use only.
log your time (IRS) and so you don't waste time else where.
isolation can be over come by biz bureaus luncheons , association meetings, introductions to your biz to local small biz etc..
