I recently bought a Compaq Laptop to replace my old Packard Bell desktop. A laptop is quite in fashion nowadays. and the price has gone down a lot.
Laptops come in different categories: ultra portable, media centres and desktop replacements.
where can u c urself? i have a desktop replacement- which is also the cheapest category. but i got myself an external k/board and mouse which makes it a lot easier to use.
if u have more than £500 u can go for better deals obviously.
now which one to go for: hp-compaq, fujitsu-siemens, acer, ibm/lenovo are all very good laptops.
if u r in the uk, go for the link below. i believe, for under 500, there is no better deal out there. u will get cheaper for celeron or sempron laptops but turion 64 is the better one.
if u r in us, well man man man...even better! u have more for less!
should u want more help, email me. i dont mind looking around for something that will suit u...

It depends on what you are doing. If you want more options for your money, go with a PC. If you want the convenience of portability, get a laptop.

Personally, I have a Toshiba Satellite (a laptop), and I absolutely adore it. I had a Dell Inspiron before, and while it was reliable, the Satellite is much lighter and less bulky.

At same level of ware you' ll find laptop more costly then PC .
You pay for mobility .

PC get the upper hand about future upgrades .
Difficult and costly upgrade laptops .

About the makes I advice you to check time and conditions of warranty .

Then consider that now you' ll find occasions for intel centrino and core 2 will be at his highest price : is the new kid on the block ! :-)

PS : I got a Toshiba with 3 yrs international warranty and a HP with a local only warranty .
Both are ok .
About warranty choose what works with your lifestyle .

Compared to PC, laptop is costly for the equivalent configuration but the advantage is the portability. Dell, HP and Lenova are the top brands. Dell has good service and HP has good look.

yes if you are a student or are on the go alot then a laptop is by far the better choice. you can take them anywhere and are much more convienient than a pc. i like sony and hp i have a sony vaio and have not had one problem with it. use it everyday and do alot of homework on it. myself i dont trust dell because of the problems my friends have had with thier dells.

a better option than a PC would be a Mac.

They are fast, reliable, long lasting, and have a very cool exterior design.

take a look ...
