Wrestling is a major passion in my life. It allows me to escape for a while, where those men and women, those amazing athletes, almost become superheroes and villains.
I’ve watched wrestling ever since I can remember. I had the pleasure of knowing both my great-grandmother and my great-great-grandmother, both of whom loved wrestling. I also bonded with my father, who took me to see the NWA, WCW, and WWE house shows.
But above all, I miss watching wrestling with my Grandfather. We all know wrestling is, shall we say, “scripted”, but that didn’t matter. It was the time we spent together rooting for our favorites, be they good guys or bad guys. We watched wrestling together almost every week, right up until he passed away from cancer in 2005.
So, enough of my sentimentality, and on with the list of my favorite “old school” wrestlers, in no particular order:

1. Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka
2. Dusty “The American Dream” Rhodes
3. Chief Wahoo McDaniel
4. Ricky Steamboat
5. Terry Funk
6. The 4 Horseman
7. The Road Warriors
8. Blackjack Mulligan
9. Nikita Koloff
10. Ivan Koloff
11. Jimmy “The Boogie Woogie Man” Valiant
12. The Junkyard Dog
13. Magnum T.A.
14. “Dr. Death” Steve Williams
15. The Great Muta
16. Jack and Jerry Briscoe
17. “The King” Harley Race
18.”Dirty” Dick Murdock
19. The Barbarian
20. Billy Jack Haynes

And “WOOOOOOO! By God… it’s the Dirtiest Player in the Game" "The Nature Boy” Ric Flair!

I gotta stop…I’ll be here all day. Sorry if I misspelled any names, I don’t have a Professional Wrestler spellchecker! Great question by the way, as you can tell, it’s brought back a lot of memories. Thanks.

Lou Thesz was the greatest of all time. I enjoyed watching John Valentine, Fred Blassie, Tim Woods (Mr.Wrestling), Andre The Giant, Dick the Bruiser, and Sputnik Monroe. Gorgeous George was the most fun showman to watch.

Angelo Poffo, father of Randy Savage and Lanny Poffo (The Brain) was one of the most skilled wrestlers I have ever seen, even though he was never considered at the top as a champion.
