I'm about 5 or 6 weeks pregnant! I have my first appointment with my dr next Monday! I am planning to go skiing this weekend and I am wondering if this is completely out of the question or if it can be done in the first trisemester? I have been searching on the net and I have found contradictory information! I fall over about once every season so I will definitely not fall over if I go a bit slower. Is falling the only risk?

Falling is the MAIN risk of ANY pregnancy. It could not only kill the baby but the risk is your life as well. In my honest opinion i wouldn't go skiing, no matter how fun it is you have more important things you should be thinking of. As far as any other risks none really. The baby is bundled inside you with your body heat. As long as you're drinking the "right" amount of liquids, eating the "right" kinds of foods all you have to do is enjoy the pregnancy. And just remember, it doesn't matter "how slow" you go on the slopes, there's still going to be a risk of falling, just depends on how badly you want to endanger yourself and your baby. GL on your decision:)

It is very unlikely that your baby will be harmed if you fall while you are pregnant, because it's extremely protected. The accident would have to be very serious for the baby to be harmed. But I'm not sure whether or not it is OK to go skiing, you should discuss this with your doctor. I think you will find contradictory information here as well, so you really should talk to your doctor about this. Congratulations.

By the way, to everyone here who's saying that falling will harm the baby, I have a friend who had fallen on her stomach while she was pregnant and her baby was absolutely fine. The baby has fantastic protection in your uterus and the accident would have to be VERY serious for the baby to be harmed. I've also read it in lots of books. So falling during pregnancy is not a big problem.

If you fall, you could hurt the baby or cause a miscarriage. That alone would be enough to make me not do it. You never know if someone might run into you or knock you over. When I went skiing, I spent more time on my bottom then going down the hill, and also your blance is off more when you are pregnant. Good luck and congrats!

It's not necessarily about falling, but straining your muscles. You use a lot of your abdominal muscles to keep yourself balanced and stable when you're skiing. That may be too much exercise that can put the baby in danger. I would probably take it easy this year and skip the skiing. It's a small price to pay for a healthy baby!

Skiing, horseback riding ect are not recommended while you are pregnant. 1st trimester is very important, don't take the chance of falling and hurting yourself or the baby. If you fall the wrong way and it's bad enough it might cause a miscarriage.

It is a risk, falling over when you are pregnant. You could fall on your stomach. Just ask your doctor and see what he says, and LISTEN to him!

Welcome to pregnancy and starting to think about your little one before yourself... this isn't good for the baby. Just sit back relax and drink a little cocoa.
