I'm doing a paper on Lady Macbeth, on how she's not really evil, just determined and maybe has a touch of mental illness. Any info would help, thanks!

Manipulative can be used to describe Lady MacB fairly well, as she manipulated, encouraged, plotted and incited Macbeth into murdering his King.

Those facts would make your views and stand on her as not being evil kind off difficult to justify and inciting her determination (to have some one / anyone killed) as a plus point may also prove a tad morally unpopular and some what hard to swallow.

Mental illness is very evident and easy proved for Macbeth, for example: as he seen imagery dagger floating before him etc, but evidencing and therefore proving mental illness for Lady Mac is a different matter. Best of luck... hope this helps?

Try a few of these sites. Lots of information. I think its evident that she does suffer from mental illness, the big debate sems to be, if it was there all along, or if it was a breakdown during this noted period. http://www.angelfire.com/tx3/chrissandy1/caladymacbeth.htm , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Macbeth_(Shakespeare) , http://www.bardweb.net/plays/macbeth.html , http://www.enotes.com/macbeth , http://www.studentcentral.co.uk/is_lady_macbeth_forth_witch_16068/
