I have always said If I had to choose I would rather be too smart for my own good than too stupid .At least I would be smart enough to know it and maybe help myself. If you're too stupid you probably wouldn't know that you were.Unless you mean are we smart enough to understand the collective stupidity of the human race then I would say most people cannot and that is one reason why the earth is in deep trouble.

Theres no good way to answer this question, as it contains to many undefined values. I mean how would you define: "smart enough" and "stupidity" - but as a matter of logic it is in most cases not possible to be aware of one own stupidity as it would (for most people) result in another "not stupid" course of action if one understood ones own stupidity.

In many cases I would guess that this is an issue more of being more or less mature rather than being smart.

If someone is very stupid then he wouldnt understand his own stupidity even if someone pointed at it directly

but if another has some cleverness, would of course understand it when his friends notice it and tell him

In order to understand the own stupidity the person must be conscience of it, sow a stupid person wont know he is stupid until someone else tells him, and a intelligent person wont recognized.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

I can't remember where I read it, but its supposed to be some Asian proverb. I can't recite it properly, so I'll paraphrase:

"A man who knows he doesn't know is ignorant - educate him." I can't remember the rest, but it has to do with "not knowing" and speaking anyway, I think.

But yeah, I know a few people who just work their jaw like a chainsaw, yak, yak, yak.....just to hear the sound of their own voice.

No i don't believe they are!

When Einstein was working on his theorys, at the time i bet he thought he was smart, but eventually when his theorys led to the development of the atomic bomb being created, i bet he thought he was stupid to have developed his ideas/theorys!

The smarter the person the more they are aware of their own stupidity.

Beware of people who back of their percieved facts with "I know it's true....I read it in the National Enquire"

Yes and this is called wisdom.

The young man knows everything.
The wise man knows only that he knows nothing.

NO.
Or yes. It is possible to understand one's own stupidity, but if you are stupid you would not accept the fact!
