There is a troll who always give old airport road for everything. Its famous only for food but its out of the way and is now under renovation. If you stay at Kembangan, the nearest shopping will be Bugis MRT.

old airport road got shopping centre meh? if you're referring to the shops above old airport food centre, they're gone because of the renovations. the whole area is a mess cos of the circle line. i'd actually say the closest mrt in terms of distance seems to be kallang but there isnt one direct bus there frm old airport. paya lebar is close by too.
