Hey guys, happy new year to all and hope the new year finds you and all you care about well. I'm having problems with my display, I'm getting grainy lines running horizontally and vertically on my screen and I can't figure out why. It goes when I restart the machine but they quickly appear and get worse the more I use the PC. It's very strange, I swapped monitors and it's not that, I can't figure out what it is to be honest. Any ideas guys? It must be something in XP I suppose. Thanks very much dudes, keep it real and all the best.

This might be a faulty refresh rate in xp. to solve this problem
right click | goto Properties| goto the setting tab
in there u will find the option for changing the refresh rate of the moniter (i don't know as i have a lcd moniter). just change the rate to 60 or 75. and ur problem should be solved. if it does not work then change the values and try again

Hello,

ANS: The first thing that immediately comes to mind is a virus? Have you run a virus scan on your machine or malware scan (or other nasties like adware, trojens or worms).

**have you downloaded any new software or installed any new software recently?

**OK! so you have said you dont think the problem is with the monitor or display but it could be a cabling or connector problem, or just a loose wire. It sounds like this is a possible too, because the problem gets worse as your system warms up?

**Could be a faulty or loose connector on the video port on the back plane of the machine. So again a loose connection could cause this potentially. Could be a loose peice of wiring inside the system unit itself, etc.

**You could also try un-installing the video drivers & re-installing them but this would be very low down my list of things to check. A physical problem seems more likely.

If you have swapped the monitor, then my next guess would be video card. Assuming it is a "plug in" card, with the PC off, remove it and clean the contacts. Use compressed air to blow out the socket.

While in there, take a couple extra minutes to blow out the rest of the case, especially be sure to clean all the fans, as overheating can cause similar problems.

Reinstall the video card and hope that solves the issue...

I had this problem, and it was a virus. If possible, restore your system and see if the problem goes away. (If you use your restore disk, you will lose everything, so back up your data first)

You also may want to get a good antivirus (symantec is pretty decent) program and try that.

Good luck. Your problem may not be the same as the problem I had, but I wish you the best.
