Well, as long as hotmail, yahoo, or gmail don't access your emails, or someone doesn't have your login information, and you don't leave the screen randomly up, i think it would be fine. A lot of people don't trust security. Paranoia, but thats ok, cause some people just arent lucky.
Honestly though, i wouldn't recommend it.

It's not very secure to do that.
Think of email as post cards. Anyone can read them without you knowing its been read.
If you need to transfer sensitive information, look into an encryption program like PGP. This will scramble your info such that only the intended recipient can view the contents. People will still be able to see the mail contents but it will just be gobbledygook to them.
The other -- and I feel easier option -- is to simply relay this info over a telephone call.

Not very. It's not specific to the email service, or a criticism of any of those mentioned. All email is subject to the same issues -- it goes across the internet, basically an unsecured medium, and can be intercepted by a hacker, or accidently misdirected.

The bank should provide encoded correspondence at their website. Never send this type of information through regular e-mail. Anyone could potentially view it, although it wouldn't be especially likely.
Be very careful about replying to any personal inquiry by an e-mail source - you never know for sure who it might be.

There is no such thing as total security on any Computer or Telephone. Best approach is never put anything on a computer or say anything on a telephone that you don't care if the world finds out.
