I think Oprah Winfrey opening a new school for girls in South Africa is fantastic, a case of putting her money where her mouth is which is something Sir Bono and Madonna should take note of instead of seeking self publicity, am I right or am I wrong?

What's a media HO? America is rich enough to look after its own kids.

OK, I withdraw my rude comments about Sir Bono, I was just unaware of any charity work he did and couldn't see beyond the chats with the Pope and the Knighthood.

I don't know about Madonna, but I do know that Bono has been very active with charity and the issues he believes in.
Oprah did a great thing. People shouldn't disrespect her for helping African girls. If that is what her heart moved her to do....that is her choice. She has done a lot of good things here in America lets not forget.
Just think of how she has changed those girls' lives!

I think Oprah is honest in what she does... Well, a little publicity won't do any harm however.... At least she is doing something to show off with... Most people pay nothing more than sweet talk or as a lady has just mentioned... raise money in which they pay zero... At least she did something towards not only a better society... More to a better world... And who knows may be this publicity we rebuke her for can make others seek the same kind.. All for the good of the less fortunate..
And believe me the poor and needy are everywhere and poverty is too stupid to realize age or gender or race.

I think its a good first step but all of Hollywood need to get together and support worthy causes like this. As far as Bono and Madonna at least they are doing something. Think of all the rich and famous that do not do anything

Fair play to Oprah! Or is it fair play?
Oprah has an angel network, where the people of America contribute to aswell.
I'm not American, thankfully.
The money from the Angel Network paid for the school... not just Oprah.
As for Bono and Madonna, it's the same! They create events like concerts and dumb asses like us attend them. It's our money going into the fundraising....again, not just Bono and Madonna!

Oprah Winfrey and all the other celebs mentioned do not have to put their hands in their pockets to help others. They are not forced to do so but do it because they obviously feel they can. I admire them all for trying to do so while most people sit on their behinds and moan about what else they could be doing. Good on them. Ask the people they have helped and supported through the years what they think of specially Oprah. She has not only has one school build and supported it in S-African but a few. Respect to them all.

Well, you could be right. Nobody knows whether that is self publicity or not. People interpret in different ways. Only Winfrey herself knows her true intentions. But the good thing is that she's giving something beneficial back to the society. Her contribution benefits people.
It is sad that many people got all the money and riches of this world, but never done anything for the less fortunate....

Anything that lights a candle in the darkness is a blessing. It is just that candles come in different shapes, sizes and colours.
Just because Sir Bono and Madonna haven't had the same publicity it doesn't mean what they have done ( if indeed anything other than raise issues into the limelight) hasn't been worthwhile.

OH! So right, she tried to share with america she tried to get the kids to stay in school but alas, that's not a valued trend among young americans who just have to say "yes" to education, and when the children of america were asked "what they would like, they answered ipod's, sneakers as opposed to the african children when they were asked the same questions they answered they wanted uniforms to attend school. These poor underpriviledged children are seeking "education" over materialistic things. Go go go! Oprah
As to the person ABOVE calling Oprah a ho, get your facts straight lady. A ho to my understanding is a "whore", that's a word used by uneducated people who lack for a better word.

you obviously don't know what you're talking about. have a look at what bono and his wife do for example. winfrey has probably only done it so more mindless morons will act like performing seals when she walks on to stage to host her drivel
search. ali hewson charity work
you'll probably find that it's not as well known as the likes of her don't need the worlds press in attendance

whilst i grew to become into youthful, i grew to become into gullible and believed in that style of stuff; like human beings being the antichrist or the government attempting to take over the worldwide. I now understand that it incredibly is absurd. Oprah Winfrey isn't devil, she is a television character that still happens to be reliable at conversing and spectacular visitors. She has no longer accomplished something "evil." bear in suggestions, there are real human beings at the back of the stars you watch on television. they have lives. they are no longer bent on taking on the worldwide the two (maximum of them). in case you desire to understand approximately somebody, attempt and meet them, do no longer purely formulate concepts approximately them and concoct conspiracy theories. you would be able to discover that the guy is carefully diverse than you predicted. :D
