Let's see. A man is slowly cutting himself off from the world because of an overprotective mother, absent father, school trouble, love life trouble, and numerous other daily life events. This finally pushes him to the edge, and he snaps.
Yep. Applies today, yesterday, next week, 100 years from now. There have always been, and will always be, people with fragile enough minds for this to occur. You read daily about people going berserk and shooting at random victims from rooftops, beating girlfriends to death, killing people over petty little things, all because some minor event just sets them off.

When will "The Wall"'s concept not apply? Though it's a story of one man's struggle, almost everyone can relate. The issues addressed still occur today and will tomorrow and so on. One thing to note though, the father in the story is not absent in the sence he doesn't care, but rather absent in that he died in the war. Again, something people unfortunately will relate to as they grow up.
Even if it's not something specifically mentioned in the story of the wall, as it was said before, we put up bricks to shut ourselves out from the world.

Of course. There was a time in my life when I felt like I had built a wall to protect my feelings from the outside world.
That album is in my Top 5 for sure, and it has absolutely stood the test of time, seeing as it came out in 1979.

You don't know any recluses?
The Wall is about a man who has a bad childhood and it really reflects on him when he gets older. He builds a "wall" between him and the people he loves.
This fits in with many people I know.

I think so. Most people still build "walls" around their true feelings.
