I just started (well about two months ago) working regularly third shift...and i'm concerned with the amount i'm sleeping. I'm not really used to sleeping during the day, but it's very easy for me. I find myself getting tired around 10am and falling asleep until 7/8 pm. sometimes till even 9. I find it VERY difficult to get out of bed when i do wake up...but once i'm up and awake, i feel GREAT. Am i getting too much sleep? cause i know too much sleep can make you tired also...or perhaps my body's just still trying to get adjusted to sleeping during the day? idk any advice would be helpful. thanks. :)

if you feel great, then you are getting good restorative sleep. If you werent getting enough or too much, you wouldn't feel good.

I work 7p to 7a three times a week. After the third shift I am so worn out that I often sleep twelve hours or more. My body just needs it.

I've worked this shift for about a year and a half now. Over time, I find that I need less sleep in between the shifts (usually about 5 or 6 hours). But still, after three in a row I need more.

You just started for two months, it's normal. I used to perform night shift for 7 years straight. You will slowly adjust to a normal 8 hours sleep. Try to sleep at noon instead of 10am. Wake around 7-8.

There are lots of health concern working in nite shift. The amount of water to drink (day sleep dehydrate more), consume more fruits, good eating habit and meal time, good sleeping enviroment.

The only solution is to try to avoid doing shift duties. In Singapore, generally jobs that are 3 shifts rotation, always have vacancies even the pay is good. Why ? It affect your health and social life, agree ?
