san fran is one of the prettiest and most welcoming places in the world. no matter what kind of person you are, san francisco can fit anyone. There are so many different communities and so many diverse things to do that one can never get bored and will never get tired of the astonishing views and people. you cant go wrong with sf. It is more than worth the money and fog.

My friend, of course it is true. You don't need a car in New York City, in particular Manhattan where parking in garage is expensive, let along finding a place to park is tough. Unlike the SF Bay Area, New York City has one of the most extensive public transit systems in the world. The New York City Subway System is one of the largest subway systems in the world with over 700 miles of tracks covering the four out of five boroughs of New York City. It is the only subway system in the world that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Long Island Railroad, one of the nation's oldest railroads that still has its original name, connect the NYC with Long Island, bring million of commuters from the eastern suburbs into the city daily. When you hear the name Grand Central Terminal, you think of the the days when the nation was moved by rail. Well today, the GCT is home to Metro-North Railroad, which operates train from this fame rail hub to the Hudson Valley, the northern surburbs and Connecticut. Other form of transportation operates to and from New York City, they included The PATH, NJ Transit, Amtrak, and both national and regional buses departing from and arriving to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. There also three airport (Newark, LGA and JFK), as well as an extesive ferry system that include the Staten Island Ferry. So there is definately no way you'll need a car to get around New York City. Good luck

My only two concerns would be money and earthquakes, but you got that covered it seems. San Fran is the coolest city I've ever visited and I've considered looking for a job there. I've vacationed in socal, NY, and southern Florida several times, and I prefer San Fran to all of them.

Well, for one thing the roads there I hear are curvy and small and all that. (I havent been there since i was 4) Secondly, if you dont like cold weather, or more so do WELL in cold weather (Like your or your gf gets sick alot when its cold),then that might be a problem. I dont think theres anything wrong, just i hear the elevations are extreme *Like houses on hills that go up down up down* that make walking around very tiring and a hassle. other then that, i'm not sure, maybe living expenses?

Since you've eliminated cost and earthquakes, the cold, foggy summer is the only remaining major negative as far as I'm concerned. Transportation leaves a lot to be desired. Roads are badly maintained and mass transit is a joke, in my opinion, compared to say, the New York metropolitan area.

If you're liberal don't move there... its full of liberals. No one will tell you when you're full of crap. I lived in Oakland for a year and came out of it just to the right of Che. I lost all touch with reality. Maybe that was more the drugs than anything else. Oh yeah... did you know gay people live there???

I actually have two great reasons not to move there but its the first and last name of an exgirlfriend, so I better not. Wait... the bike messengers, did you know its illegal to hit them with a golf club? They are all meth heads and surly (go figure).

The cost is the biggest reason. After that if you are a conservative you will be in the minority.

weather is not always nice --- earthquakes, too. Plus, it is VERY, VERY expensive to live there. Cost of living is astronomical
