When you reach a point where all the heat is removed from an area you cant remove anymore. 0k,or 0c.

Temperature is a measure of the energy contained within a substance due for example to the vibration of atoms or molecules within a crystal. When all the (heat) energy is removed (at 0k) vibration ceases and no more energy can be removed. The temperature is at zero degrees absolute which is virtually impossible to obtain and sustain in the lab.

Zero-point energy does not really explain why this is impossible, so I'll explain as best as I can here here in a classical sense:

If you drop from 15K to 10K you to not extract the same amount of themal energy as if you drop from 10K to 5K. Although the temperature differences are the same, the energy differences are very different. At room temperature this relationship can be roughly approximated to be linear but at low temperatures it can be seen that this relationship is exponential with an asymptote at 0K. This means that to drop from any temperature to 0K would release an infinate amount of energy (or, conversely, take an infinate amount of energy to remove the heat - see entropy).

We can get closer and closer but never reach it because it is not a linear relationship.

Note: In a quantum mechanical sense, the zero point energy exists but this really only takes effect for quantum field theory in vacuums and, as temperature in classical physics requires a medium, this doesn't apply as strongly.

0 degrees Kelvin is defined as the point at which there is no heat energy left in the object.

Other examples of such absolute points include an object's age (you can't be -20 years old) and size (you can't be -2 metres tall)

Temperature in Kelvin is defined as the amount of heat present. If you have no heat present (0 K), you can not get any less....What is negative heat???
