Perversions produce a victim, fetishes incorporate objects that satiate sexual arousal. fetishes are harmless, perversions hurt people. Am I right?

When someone else doesn't accept or understand it. Perversion is a very negative word, but it's heavily personal. Delve into the world of porn and you'll see it first-hand. I've talked with straight men who'll masturbate to two guys getting it on, then do the same thing to a threesome with a guy and two girls.

There's a market for midget sex. There's a market for fat sex. There's a market for animal sex, for god's sake. And there isn't a market for something if there isn't demand.

Everyone gets off on their own thing; everyone has their own 'fetish'. If someone else doesn't understand the attraction but can't persuade someone off of it, it's then viewed as a 'perversion' by others.

And that's the difference.

I don't know the technical explanation between the difference, except that one is positive, the other negative. I think that the word 'perversion' has been applied to a lot of behavior that is now being reclaimed as a healthy, normal fetish. I think each just qualify a subjective value judgement.

I don't think that you're definition is right, but I really like it and think it should be used from now on, because that's exactly how I define a perversion in my head: something that harms another person (against their will).

Fetishes and perversions are all relative to an individual. Where something light might be a fetish in someone more conservatives mind's eye will be seen as a perversion, others may see hardly anything as perversion.

Probably technically but most of us who are lifestyle BDSM, Leather and Fetish, toss around the "perv" word with a sense of irony and humor. Its like some gay men who call each other "*******", essentially its not an insult if you are one.

I don't have a fetish, I define that as a compulsive, and I never ever do anything without informed consent, but I would many of the things I do are definitely perverted in a good way.

When you use feathers it's a fetish...it becomes a perversion when you use the whole damned chicken!

By their very nature, all fetishes are perversions. That is, unless your perversion is missionary, in the dark, and no talking.

I reckon for two reasons a)when it is considered to be harmful to any other involved party its then a perversion and b) when by general consensus it is considered to be harmful to society regardless of the feelings of any individual involved party.

When the person is laughing fiendishly like Dr. Frankenstein when he is committing his little fetish with his shoes, undies, or whatever.
