My major requires 71 credits to graduate...how many semesters would I have to take or how many years would I be in school?

It sounds like a two-year program. A full load is 12 to 18 credit hours per semester.

Depends on how many credits you decide to take each semester. 12-15 credits is full time. So, if you did 15 credits each semester it would take you 5 semesters. But, I assume you have core classes to complete? If so, tack on another 3-4 semesters.
