I said to my son these things when he was growing up:
1.Always be kind to other people, even though you have the looks, the personality, and the friends remember that you are the "leader" of your group of friends, they will do what you do and think that cool is what you think cool is. So be kind to those around you who other's don't think of as cool and your friends will too.
2.Go to the defense of the defensless. Never stand by and watch someone hurt or bully someone else.
3. Respect the people who are in authority, they may not always be right but they are in a position of authority. If you need to discuss or question someone in authorities actions do it one on one and in private.
4. Remeber that you were born in the greatest country in the world. You are lucky to live where you have freedoms and rights. Most of the world does not. Don't take those freedoms and rights for granted.
4. Thank God everyday for your blessings.
5. Whatever you decide to do put everything you have into. If you decide to be a ditch digger then be the very best ditch digger there ever was. If you don't take pride in your work then it is fruitless.
6. Remember that there is no shame in "honest" work. No matter what you choose to do if it is honest and serves a purpose then it is honorable and you should take pride in it.
7. Wealth, looks, health, material objects can all be taken from you at any time; but your integrity and good name can never be taken from you.
8. The world doesn't have to be a better place because you've been in it; but you are obligated not to leave it any worse because you've been in it.
He is 24 now and he has turned out great.

Neither. I would go with 'become what you really wanna become and I'll be behind you 100%, all the way.'
I know how it feels when parents don't support their child's dreams.
And though I know there will be painful situations along the way, that's the best way someone learns.

No...I would want you to be who you can best be. But, I understand alittle of why some people insist on their kids doing better. It's a hard life when you don't make much. They only don't want you to go through that.
