Does anyone remember a film from years ago....?

I think it was made in the 70's in America about a meteor approaching earth. There was a reporter who did not evacuate with everyone else and some men out camping too.

The movie was called Meteor (1979) and was the first attempt at a disaster film about something from space (it was nominated for an OSCAR!!! All star cast and nuclear missles! WOW!)- since then Deep Impact (1998), Armageddon (1998), Asteroid (1997), and others...

Although you may consider The Blob as the first meteor disaster film and that can out 1958 and remade in 1988 (Beware the Blob was the sequel to the 1958 movie and it came out in 1972).

There is one movie I know, funnily enough called Meteor (1979) - Huge chunks of a meteor are headed for Earth in this sci-fi film that attempts to capture audiences hooked on disaster movies.
Cast includes - Sean Connery, Natalie Wood and Henry Fonda

There were several movies made at the end of the 1990's - including one called "Deep Impact" - Starred Robert Duval, Morgan Freeman (as US President) - Téa Leoni as a reporter who had a place of safety but gave it way to spend her final moments on a beach with her dad (Maximillian Schell). Robert Duval lead the other half of the film - aboard a spacecraft that landed on the comet to try and destroy it.

It was an okay film, with some moving moments. I think it was also the first one that dared to put a black man as the US president (I think Americans are probably about another 80 to 100 years from making THAT one a reality! - unless Morgan runs for office for REAL!)

Nasa later named their probe that was sent to comet Temple 1 'Deep Impact'
