I sure do feel for you because menopause is ringing your phone! Those are hot flashes, no matter how your doctor puts it, he just wants to calm you down. You will have wet hair on the back of your head for years, maybe 10. But you are going toward NO MORE PERIODS and that is a sweet time of life. I still haven't removed all the female tampons in my cabinet because they remind me I am free!!! It is worth the suffering now. Your hormones are sweating it out. You should find a doctor who will put you on hormones and that would curtail your appetite, help your weight and water build-up, and diminish those night sweats!! I used to get them all day too!! Day and night!! When he says 10 years, that's when you will stop having periods. Until then, prepare to complain. It is NOT easy and anyone who says it is, is fibbing. Also, at the very last, I was so full of blood there were clots my doctor had to scrape out (sorry folks) and then I took a drug that made it all go away!! (I still have to have a cup of ice at my side at all times though because my mouth is always dry) It's worth it!! You are headed toward freedom!! Good Luck @8=)

Yup. Sounds like pre-menopausal symptoms, which could easily start at 42 y/o. And yes, you can have symptoms for many years, although this varies widely. Many women opt for HRT (hormone replacement therapy) because the symptoms are distressing and uncomfortable, including making you grouchy. That's an individual decision. I'm living with the symptoms, which are gradually diminishing after several years. I figure this is the other end of the upsets I had with puberty. I have more cognitive skills to deal with them now.
Definitely, see another MD.
Good luck, whatever you decide.

My doctor said the usual age for menopause is 52 but that does not mean you can not start earlier. Also there are tests to find out if you are starting menopause. Ask you doctor about these tests. They are just hormones test, they check your blood levels etc for things that indicate if you are starting menopause. Hope this helps

I seem to wake up in a sweat a lot, but I'm also, often on the floor, tangled up in sheets, and what the heck are those mens shoes doing there? Dallas

This is one of the most common symptoms of menopause. Menopause usually sets in by the ages between 45 to 55 years. But some women can start their menopause earlier also. To relieve the symptoms of menopause you can opt for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). HRT is believed to relieve the symptoms of menopause and leads to a better quality of life.

Advice 1 - Posting this in Computers is going to get you less good advice than if you posted this in the appropriate section.

Advice 2 - get a second opinion from another doctor

my mom was like this before. It got better by working out regularly, keeping balanced nutrition. It was cured once she doesn't have her period.
