What keeps you from getting a torn groin while doing bungee-jumping?

I think the shock might get your leg pulled too hard for comfort. What are the safety precautions / shock absorbers?

The fact that the rope is made out of a elastomer material.. If you used something that couldn't stretch then the rope would most likely snap before you could tear any muscle
