You are a precious miracle,
and a dream come true.
It will be my honor,
to grow in faith with you.
I welcome this invitation,
extended with love.
I will be your angel,
sharing promises from above.
As I gently hold you,
and look at your sweet face.
I say a little prayer,
that you be touched by grace.
So much of life ahead,
I dream of all you'll be.
Times we'll spend together-
my Godson and me.
I will hold your hand,
and stand by your side.
I will be your model,
your teacher, and your guide.
I will give you time,
with thoughts of you each day.
I will keep you in my prayers,
as you find your way.
I look forward to the years ahead,
and being a godparent to you.
May our treasured bond grow strong,
and in faith our hearts be true::

Here are some poems that might work for christening your brand new little one:

http://www.babysite.org/babysite/sidene/poems.htm

I especially like this one:

Meaghan Elizabeth Moeller: a journey for us all

The promise of a new life
beams like the sun rising o'er the East--
Bright, vibrant, illuminating, warm.
The light you are destined to bring to this world
has already brightened all our lives--
as it is sure to spread to every corner of this land.
Yet, even as shadow recedes as noon approaches there
is always somewhere not warmed by the light--
how unfortunate these spaces would be if not lighted
by you--the warmest radiance of all.

And, as it is that we cannot but glimpse the brightness
of our solar friend without fear of blindness,
neither can we gaze into your brilliance to see
what so many tomorrows will bring.
But the promise of discovery makes every moment elapsed
an eternity of possibilities.

And though we cannot know what bright future
destiny holds for you,
we can all imagine, dream, ponder.
Yet, in the end you will choose on what celestial path
you wish to wander.
And, such as the stars arise from the collection
of matter to one venue,
So will your life be made from what you gather
from those around you.
Thus, though the path you choose will be your own,
the journey of your life will never be yours alone.

by Chadwick Austin Moeller - Uncle of Meaghan
Apr. 11, 1998 (two days after Meaghan was born)

It was written for a girl but it could be used for a boy just as well. By the way, there are lots of great poems on this site. Be sure to click on the others at the bottom of the page. I feel certain you'll find one that is just perfect for the occasion.

Of course, you may just decide to use Hanna 17's beautiful poem or write an original poem of your own. Whatever you decide, I'm sure the christening will be beautiful. Be sure to take lots of snaps. This won't ever happen again!

Poems For Christenings

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream-and not make dreams your master;
If you can think-and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And-which is more-you'll be a Man, my son!

As pure as the winter's first snow...you are,
A vision of innocence blessed from afar.
Sent to this earth for us all to love,
A cherished, adorable, gift from above.
A child of the angels and Godson to me,
The dearest of treasures there ever could be!

The quest of life must be to find
the key that's hidden in your mind
Unlock the door to sacred ground
where knowledge of yourself is found

That will be the only way
you as old can proudly say:
"I've searched my soul, and I can tell;
I have spent my lifetime well!"
