You can reset the password by booting into safe mode. Press f8 during bootup and select safe mode with networking. Then click on the admin icon, click yes when it prompts you that its running in safe mode. Go to the control panel and click on users, then click on your userid and select to delete the password. Reboot normally then you can get into your account without a password. If you want to set it backup again, then just go back to control panel, click on users then your id then set password.

if u are using windows XP and u are an administrator and if u forgot ur password. Sorry there is no way to retrieve or reset ur passord and the only way is reformatting.
