It can be the same difference between friendship and dating, if you are talking about romantic love. If you are talking about love in general like what we feel for our closest family members and friends, then I suppose the difference is more akin to knowing someone for 2 weeks as opposed to knowing them for 20 years. Liking someone is a softer, less intense relationship than the deeper feelings of love that build up after sharing many years and experiences together.

In friend terms, love is where 2 friends are very close and know one another really well, and do good deeds for one another very often. Like is just friendly, nothing more. It's the difference between a guy saying "yeah, that dude is my friend" or "yeah, that guy's ok/cool"

In opposite sex terms, it gets confusing because women have never told me their like and love equivalences. This is probably because they mix them up often too. My girlfriend, for example, uses both with me. No idea why.

When I use them in opposite sex terms, however, like is where I got the girl's number, she is attractive, and I am going to or have set up a date with her. This feeling keeps on during a relationship until I feel completely comfortable with and trusting of that person. This takes a girl about 1-3 months with me.

you can like anything (you may like i.e a flower because of it's scent , a car because it goes well , a dream because it's what you always wanted --- and so on )
but love --- ah ! that's a different ball game --- commitment & sincerity are the two big ingredients toss in a bit of love --- guess what you finish up with ? --- the difference between like and love ! good luck .

I don't know if there is one. When I met my husband I liked him to pieces. He was so cute and witty I had to marry him to be closer to him and feel even closer to him. I remember, all those years ago, that when I stepped out of my parent's house and got into my husband's car, I knew I was HOME! But who's home? It felt like mine but a new one! Weird stuff!! Do I like him to death or love him to death? After 40 years, I can say that I LIKE the hell out of the guy because I LOVE him so much. I just know I HAVE to have the man! That other kind of dramatic, sticky love that hurts off and on, is not for me!!
People love diffferently. @8=)

Love is when you put your all into a person, thing, a situation and youre committed to it. It your pride and joy, you would do anything for the person, thing, or situation.

Like is when youre interested but dont care to follow through if you do you do if you dont you dont. It wont matter much.

i think like is when you BELIEVE you would do a whole lot to make that person feel happy and safe.
i think love is when you really would, not just believe, do the things that show your love and commitment. it also requires knowing a person very, very well, while "like" doesn't require much at all.

"like" is not something serious. just a kind of flirt.
"love" is the opposite, it means deep feelings and serious intention.
