Notre Dame has been overrated since the end of the 1980's. In the 1980's they played good, but they haven't since. Look at their schedule. They mostly play weak teams with a few tough ones in the line-up like USC and Michigan. But look what USC and Michigan did to them. Both of the good teams thumped them and the games weren't even close.
I'd put Notre Dame on par right now with MSU, which is right around the middle of the Big Ten in quality.
Charlie Weiss is a great coach. He just needs a few more years to turn the program into a great program. Right now he's coaching players he didn't recruit. Players that were recruited under coaches who were having mediocre seasons at best. Only thing now is he has a lot of seniors probably leaving. So he'll have plenty of rebuilding to do.

I am an ND fan and I believe they get overrated every year due to historical success decades ago and name recognition. In general, LSU was playing at a higher level than ND last night especialy in the second half. The first half was an actual football game, the second half, everything fell apart for ND. They repeated Charley Weiss' own words during the telecast and I would agree with him 100% that ND lacks the speed on defense and in the offense to be able to play with the best teams. Bottom line: I think ND had maybe a top 15 team but not a top 5 team. If Weiss stays though I think the team will only get better so I sure hope he does stay.

Yes, this season, they definitely were. Notre Dame has always garnered a little more attention than many other teams. They have their own network broadcasting contract which makes the folks at NBC pump them up a little more than normal because they profit from Notre Dame's success.
However, we shouldn't just point the finger at Notre Dame in this matter. The BCS has consistently placed teams that have higher profit drawing margins in championship bowl games. USC was placed in the Rose Bowl for the simple fact that they will attract the lucrative California market. Were it based on pure athletic skill and strength of schedule (as it supposedly is), LSU would have been in the Rose Bowl. Instead, they played a very profitable "home" game for the BCS at the Louisiana Superdome. Also, despite the loss to USC, Michigan should have been placed in the championship game against Ohio State, but the BCS knew that fewer people would tune in to the game if it were merely a "rematch" of a game that was played earlier in the season.
What it all boils down to is profit for the schools and the NCAA as a whole, as well as Tostitoes, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and every other bowl sponsor.

I think it was a bad draw...LSU is 3rd or 4th best in the country with the 2 best teams being in the championship game. If ND played overrated oklahoma, boise st or wake they would of won easily. Insted they had to play a very good LSU team. All 3 of ND's losses were to BCS bowl teams.

They get paid to do that. It is scripted because of the broadcasting rights. Pay for the dumb play system that Notre Dame is under. I think that if they had played Boise they would have lost. Florida would have crucified them (Bet LSU). They deserve to be sitting at home in front of their livingroom tv.

ND was a good team, they just made too many stupid mistakes that could have been avoided. with a qb who got third in the heismen race, they had the opportunity to do good.

After nine consecutive bowl loses the Gipper must be rolling over in his grave. Makes you think they are way over-rated.
