I agree with you....I feel that the state of it being illegal is because they have people who can't handle so therefore they feed off of the person's ignorance. I have seen some of the smartest people get degrees and recognition while consuming marijuana. Especially in the political world, you have members of congress and other state legislatures getting high on a daily basis and its not just with marijuana if you get my drift. In Denver, its legal, so why not make it legal for the whole United States..there are few people who have high titles that are doing it.

Marijuana was outlawed for two major reasons. The first was because "All Mexicans are crazy and marijuana is what makes them crazy". The second was the fear that heroin addiction would lead to the use of marijuana -- exactly the opposite of the modern gateway myth.
The marijuana laws were the product of lunacy so silly that people just laugh when they read the story today. For example, the US Official Expert on marijuana testified in court, under oath, that marijuana had turned him into a bat.
You can find a short summary of why it was outlawed, along with links to original source documents at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/mj_outlawed.htm
Alcohol is legal because we tried making it illegal and found that it only caused more problems than it solved. You can find some info on that at http://druglibrary.org/prohibitionresults.htm
Tobacco is legal because it has always been big business and because for years they claimed that smoking tobacco was actually healthy. They used to feature doctors and nurses in tobacco ads.
Every major study of the marijuana laws in history has concluded that the marijuana laws were based on racism, ignorance, and nonsense. They all said there was no justification for marijuana being illegal. You can read the full text of those reports at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/studies.htm
BTW, the link posted by Lady J above uses these same sources. They are the definitive works on the subject.

Alcohol and Nicotine are legal because they were discovered first. Alcohol was illegal for a time (prohibition) but that didn't work did it? Marijuana was made illegal mainly because of racism. I've wondered time and time again how a drug as dangerous as nicotine, and specifically cigarettes can be legal, and the answer is that there are ENORMOUS profits to be made, and those profiting have their hands in the lawmakers' pockets. There is no logical reason that two harmful drugs are lawful and therefore moral, whereas a much less harmful drug is illegal and therefore immoral (to those that cannot seperate the two.)
Check out this link, it's pretty interesting:

I've always wondered the same thing. Scientists are doctors will probably say that marijuana is more harmful...that it can kill brain cells. That it can impair your judgement, make your reflexes slow, harm others. You know what marijuana does...it makes you relaxed, sometimes make you laugh nonstop and some times makes you a little disconnected from the world. Well guess what...cigarettes can cause lung cancer which can kill you. Chewing tobacco can cause mouth and throat cancer that can kill you. Alcohol can cuase a number of problems after many years. Its just as addictive as other drugs...more so cause you can buy it on a regular basis. Some people under the influence of alcohol kill others, rape others..have no idea what they are doing. Alcohol can impair your judgement, make you have no reflexes and can leave you sleeping in the bathroom after puking your guts out. Alcohol can also kill you just by drinking too much...alcohol poisoning. So do I think marijuana should be illegal? Well when compared against what we have already legalized...I guess not.

Marijuana rules are fullyyt in keeping with prohibition rules that have been created around the 50s. At one time it grew to become into available for politicians and the U.S. government to propagandize marijuana (to charm to the persons balloting) in a unfavourable easy (Reefer insanity action picture produced in the 50s). This grew to become into beforehand of the Age of technologies. NOW all people is acquainted with the reality approximately marijuana and individuals are purely too clever to be fooled by skill of political agendas because of the fact there's no censorship on line. however the guidelines nonetheless stay. all of us understand that Marijuana isn't a scheduled narcotic we purely would desire to make the regulation mirror the reality.

The government only wants the taxable legalized. Marijuana can be grown in your closet, and the government would never see a dime. They are making too much money off of the fines that people pay for getting caught with it.

They are able to tax cig's and alcohol. If they leagalize marijuana, they may as well legalize cocaine, heroin, ect. They are all damaging to your body and mind. Too much money being made by the suppliers, dealers, and court system. Legalize pot and the rest of the drug users will be in line.
