Having been to the hospital 9 times for long and short stays in my life, I will list a few things that will make your stay more comfortable.

I will say that most Mothers only stay 1 maybe 2 days in the hospital after delivery. So you actually do not need all that much unrelated to the side effects to delivery.

1. DO NOT TAKE YOUR JEWELRY. (Many people have had theirs stolen in the hospital.

2. TAKE A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY. (theft happens in hospitals.

3.If you are fussy about using you own pillow take it in a Bright colored pillowcase.

4.Hospitals are usually cold, so take warm sleepwear and a robe.
If you are nursing, make sure your gowns or PJ's open in the front.

5.I love the snack Idea (if you are nursing) Just make sure it is healthy. Maybe granola bars not candy bars.

6. Bring any book you are reading at home.

7.Your baby's going home diaper bag and CAR SEAT.

8.Be careful taking your purse as it will be left alone in your room during delivery.

Good Luck and Happy Baby!

Myf irst child I think I packed everything I could. Waste. I think the most usful things I packed with my second were several comfy nighties. Lots of underwear and my own sanitary napkins. the hospital ones aren't very good. make sure you have the softest toilet paper too...at hospital and home. That is a Blessing many women forget about. Splurge on the good stuff, it is so worth it. I took a good book and a cross word. Didn't need much else. Don't forget appropriate loose clothes to go home in. slippers. robe and baby's go home outfit and car seat.

a book or magazine, couple dollars in change for the vending machines, pen, paper, your own pillow, toothbrush (those hospital ones can rip your gums out), hairbrush, snacks and several pairs of underwear. Don't forget a comfy pair of socks. I forgot mine with my last labor and my toes got cold.
Check with the hospital to see if they have the cold pads. They're a sanitary napkin that then crack and it's like an ice pack. Those are simply wonderful after having a vaginal birth!! If not, check around with your OB/GYN and see where you can get some.
Good luck and congrats on the baby!!

Definetly bring some breath spray or mouthwash!!! Keep it right on your bedside table within easy reach while your in labor. After a few hours without food or water, no ones breath is any fun. We all spend time shaving the legs, among other things, to be sure that everything looks decent for all of the many people that will be there like the doctors, nurses, and multiple family members that refuse to leave the room, but we forget about the breath. Dragon breath is no fun!!

One of the nicest things I had with me was a bed jacket - a short "robe" that went only to my hips. That way, I was able to have visitors and be modest without having a long robe bunched around my waist! I experienced some complications, and was in the hospital for almost a week, so it was nice to feel I looked reasonably good. A pen and paper are good to have in case you want to write down things that your doctor or the nurses tell you, or things that happen while you're there, like visitors and what they bring. Don't forget to bring an outfit or two to put on the baby to take him/her home in!

Something warm to take baby home in if you are having it in the winter. Also, take sanitary pads -- the big ones! The hospital will most likely have them, but they might not be the ones YOU like. :) (Oh, I'd also pack some snacks, if you don't want to have to get your family members to hunt down vending machines.)

Black & big undies that can hold big bulky sanitary pads & don't show blood stains.
Black p.j. bottoms as large amounts of blood always leaks out after a baby.
Some good reading & bottled water as you get really thirsty while breastfeeding & hospital water is not always good.
Baby wipes as hospitals usually don't provide them & cotton wool & water is awkward & uncomfortable for bubs.
Hope this helps

Lip balm, a robe, something to read, and a coming home outfit for the baby. But whatever you decide to take, don't forget to bring the car seat.

i packed a few things for my husband like boxers, chips and his notebook computer. it was useful because my husband didn't want to leave me and the baby so the underclothes came in handy, he was hungry and we watched movies and played games on the notebook computer to pass time.
