This question is common I am sure. I work full-time to pay the bills and go to a community college part- time in the evenings. I want to eventually quit my job and do school full time - however I don't know what the heck I want to do. I mean really WANT! If I spend 4 years in college I want to be sure I am going towards something I love that will also bring in enough money to live comfortably. My only real interest is art but everyone around me insures me that there is no career in art and that I would be wasting my time. I also like music. PLEASE HELP! Any advice is appreciated.

I will answer you with the words of my grandfather
who said this to me some forty years ago---he has
been gone now for almost thirty years

Pick something you truly love
give it absolutely everything you've got
and the money thing will take care of itself

I have been into photography for thirty years now and it still provides me with a super good life--- I can't see myself at having done Anything else
If it is Art that you truly love---don't be detered by the thoughts of others---THEY are not the ones that will be doing whatever it is that YOU will be doing for the rest of your life----YOU ARE !!!

Ok here's what to do.

Go to a 4 year school to get a degree in Finance, Accounting, Chemistry, Biology, or Engineering.

Get a job, make enough money to do what you like on the side.

Degree's in Art and Music are typically a good way to get into working at Starbucks.

Don't think youre going to wake up one day and know what you want to do with the rest of you life. You just need a good job with good money until you figure it out.

Maybe Commercial Art would be practical and enjoyable. Also, there is a book called Do What You Are by Barbara and Paul Tieger that really zeros in on determining what an individual would really love as a vocation, based on a simple but accurate personality assessment that is quickly and easily self administered. Try it!
