The congress wanted to call them freedom fries to get back to the french for not going to war with the US in Irak.
Since most americans now think that the war was a big mistake, I guess the french were right and americans should not hold a grudge.

I like the term "chips" as the English use.
I think congress advocating the term "Freedom Fries" was worth a chuckle in the beginning. It's time is over. It's starting to look petty.

Because that is what they have always been called, and just because Congress threw a hissy fit and tried to make a point (even if it was an extremely lame one, like renaming french fries) I am not going to be a conformist over something so stupid just because a couple people from the U.S. didn't agree with a couple people from France.

Actually, the "french" fry, originated in Belgium. They should rightfully be called "Belgian Fries", but I guess the ultra-patriots didn't look that up when they decided to make a strong stand against a snack food.

We are all creatures of habit....so saying FRENCH FRIES...will probably live on unless there is a tax on saying the words.......the government might have "chat police" out there looking for us who are breaking the law saying FRENCH FRIES..instead of FREEDOM or AMERICAN FRIES...In fact I think one chain has AMERICAN FRIES....whatever as long as they are HOT and SALTED...that is all I care and cooked right and taste right! I make my own and just say "COME AND GET UM..THEY ARE HOT!"....they don't even get a name!

Freedom fries....impressive indeed, however, I don't think people would actually understand exactly what you mean by that when at the restaurant;))))

And since when did we start listening to congress?
They can't find their butts with both hands and a road map, why would we listen to them? LOL.
