If we din't feel pain, we wouldn't know that we'd been hurt, and we wouldn't know what to bandage up and heal.

Okay, so the 2 kinds of pain are physical and mental pain.
(mental pain can also be considered emotional pain. it is not "physical" mental pain, such as a knock to the head)

Without physical pain, we could be abusing our bodies without realizing it. Imagine if a guy keeps pounding his hand with a stone, and he doesn't feel pain. A week later, "Doctor, WHY can't I use my hand?"

Mental pain is there to tell us... that somethings in life can't be, and that there is something that needs attention. Without mental pain, we could end up hurting ourselves and the people around us... especially the ones we love.

Pain is like a stop light. When the "red" is there, we have to stop and wait, maybe have a little rest, chat with your carpool mates. When it's "green", we can go again, and continue our journey.

We are feeling impulses from a certain part of the body to our minds informing us that the body is in danger and that the danger is imminent and must be avoided, but certain mind exercises help one reject pain(like mind over matter) with concentration and states of trance.
