i just bought a 1998 bmw m3 evo 3.2 6 speed with 58k on the clock and every extra you can get for £7800 an evo or impreza are about the same performance on the road but the bm will hold its money better and its 3.2 6 cylinder engine will outlast most sports cars engines and its that bit more up market sporty without being boy racerish, oh and the women certainly seem to like it

A 2nd hand Suburu or Mitsubishi Evo. Both are fast and extremely reliable.

I'd certainly consider a later Toyota Supra. Good looks. Japanese reliability. Good scope for tuning.
