Follow the spark testing rules..........
1) check for spark at the coil
A. spark.....go to distributor
B. no spark....check ohm values of coil
if with in specs. check coil wire ....(max allowable 7,000-10,000ohms per foot of wire)
2) check distributor
a, spark......check ohm value of wires (same as above)
B. no spark ....check cap AND rotor
c. Cap and rotor good .......Check controll module

First check you have power to your distributor if yes then check your h/t lead from coil to distributor,if OK then check rotor
also check for power to the coil, if no power to the coil check you haven't blown your main fuse for ignition,or if you have a loose wire somewhere
If it has points ignition check your point gap and dwell the secret to getting a v8 to run right is the dwell setting right on points ignition

take distributor off and see if rotor is turning while cranking, if not pull it out and put new roll pin in essentric gear halfway down distributor shaft it has broken, then re-time
all answers good but this is from experience hope it helps

Replace the rotor, if thats not it then maybe the distributer or the coil itself.
