Don't slam on your brakes---then you'll be an @ss like the tailgater.
I've noticed that my husband doesn't mind riding someones butt---But if they do it to him, he freaks out.

If you want to crash and spend the rest of your life with back and neck injuries, sure, slam the brakes. If you want to get your message across to the tailgator without an accident, just step lightly on your brakes so that the driver sees the brake lights. That usually gets them to increase the distance a little bit.

I tap my brakes and slow down. They generally back off. I don't think I would slam my brakes unless I was fairly certain that they had insurance to cover the damage and injuries. You can't tell just by looking at a vehicle if the person is law abiding and has insurance so I guess it would depend on how much risk you are willing to take.

I have before. They act like they can go through your car sometimes. I would also slow down to a creep if they gate even though I am going the speed limit or above. As much as them gating you stresses you out, making them go much slower stresses them out too. Once I get my message across I'll return to the posted speed and if they ride my bumper again I'll slow down again. There's a lot of road rage now and people don't think before they become violent and it doesn't matter to them if they are the ones who are wrong. Did you see the news report where this guy shot into a mans car and killed his 5 year old daughter just because the man had been driving too slow in front of him and wouldn't let him pass? The law let that murderer go saying he was "provoked".

If it's during the day...turn on your head lights, quickly flash them...this from behind looks like you stepped on the brakes, confusing them. If they are that close or it is getting dangerous pull over and let them pass you up...don't play games with people, always assume that this is a nut with a gun or other weapon and just needs one more thing to happen to snap and shoot somebody over nothing. Happy New Year..don't end up on the six o'clock news.
