Why is it important?
What does the future hold for RFC 1918?

And what is the meaning of life for an IT professional?

It allows network designers to build networks without using public IP addresses. There is a finite number of IP addresses available and if every machine used a public IP address we would have run out of addresses several years ago.

I don't forsee much in the way of change for RFC 1918. It serves well and there is no particular need to extend the private space since every private network is free to use the available addresses and no single private network has yet come close to using all of the available private IP addresses.

The meaning of my life is defined by the people who love me. IT just puts food on the table and keeps my mind sharp.
