48hrs is the legal maximum in the EU under the working time directive, this however is commonly flounted with little or no enforcement.

The only way it is ever going to be tackled is to have strong trade unions supported by 100% membership so we can take down these immoral bosses who think it is ok to over-work their staff in the persuit of profit.

You cannot be forced to work more than 48 hours a week in any working establishment as per labour laws.

48 hr working week is normal in New Zealand

In really busy times people have been known to have to do 80 hr weeks in some industries such as bakerys, Hospitals etc..
