I can understand that both the male and female "parts" are censored on television....but why are women's breasts censored and men's aren't? They look identical to me, only women's stick out more. It doesn't make sense to me.
I'm not gay or anything and I'm not trying to be vulgar or gross.....I'm just curious as to why the same parts would be censored on one gender, and not the other.

Big difference between male and female breasts. Nipples on a woman are erotic to men.

No, censorship of any kind is usually pretty stupid. If people are offended, they just shouldn't watch.

It's just old religious dogma, and probably had something to do with how women used to be considered property, and giving them less freedom to keep them submissive. In cultures where nudity is common, breasts and other parts are not considered a big deal.

I hear that the United States is more neurotic about nudity than most of Europe. My sister is living in Britain with her Airforce husband, and she says regular public TV stations show porn every night after 10pm, and to my knowledge British men don't regularly commit mass rape or partake in massive orgies.

According to my source below, The United States has much higher rape rates than all of the European nations on the list. So less nudity certainly doesn't appear to help in that area. Canada is much higher than the US for some reason though. I wonder how much they censor there?

It's an old-fashioned concept of modesty still residing from our Puritanical roots; since us human men are really evil, horny shmucks, the mere sight of exposed female breasts is enough to drive us on a sex-driven craze powerful enough to bring down a nation.

The problem with that thinking is that it actually leads people to believe there actually is something naughty about boobs because they're always purposely hidden. So while the system reduces the amount of female breasts we see, it actually increases our lust (and, when combined with social standards, our outward shock) towards exposed blouse-mice. Hence the Janet Jackson incident at the Super Bowl.

So no. No, it does not make sense. It's a system created and supported by people who believe we don't have the self-control to not go into a 'Quest for Fire' mode whenever we see teh b00bies. Meanwhile, other nations seem to have no problems whatsoever when they appear on the telly.

Censorship never makes sense.

People should be given advice about what they will see and then left to make their own decisions. Not some creepy little man in a back room making the decisions for people.
