Let the fractions be 2/3 and 3/5.First of all find the LCM of the two denominators 3 and 5 which is 15.
Now take the first fraction which is 2/3.now divide 15 by the denoominator of this fraction which is 3 and you get 5.Multiply both the numerator and denominator of this fraction by 5
2/3=(2X5)/(3X5)=10/15
Similarly multiply both the numerator and denominator of the second fraction by (15/5 or) 3 and you get
3/5=(3X3)/(5X3)=9/15
Now you have two fractions 10/15 and 9/15 both having the same denominator 15.Hence ,the fraction having the greater numerator i.e.10/15 or 2/3 is greater.
Hope I could explain it properly. However if you have any problem in understanding, you may contact me through Yahoo Answers

Make the denominator the same fr both fractions. Now, the fraction wth the bigger numerator is the bigger fraction
for eg 2/3 and 3/7
multiply 2/3 by 7=14/21 (both numerator and denominator)
multiply 3/7 by 3 =9/21
as 14 is bigger than 9 ,2/3 is bigger than 3/7

Multiply each fraction by the bottom number of the other, then compare the top numbers and you're done.
Example :
2/7 and 5/9
(2/7) * 9 = 18/63
(5/9) * 7 = 35/63
now 35 is larger than 18 so (5/9) is larger than (2/7)
Hope i was clear.

When the bottom number is bigger than the other one. For example: 1/2 is bigger than 1/5. Because you have 5 pieces that are divided up (1/5) instead of two pieces. (1/2) Its a little bit simpler than the other answers but that's how i think of it.

Divide the top number by the bottom number and this will give you a decimal. example 1/2 = .5. the larger the decimal the bigger the number.
