Strettyford makes a good point about media pressure. Having said that, let's take a look at the 'experts', by which I assume you mean the commentators. Atherton and Hussain both averaged around 37, a figure that all of England's top 5 exceed. David Lloyd was a joke as England coach, I have no idea why he's in the box. Botham was the most naturally talented England player since Peter May and won many games through force of personality, but his career figures (32/28) took a nosedive in his last 5 years. Gower was a beautiful player to watch and was badly treated by England at the end of his career, but his captaincy was so abject that I would take any insight from him *** grano salis. All of these guys had the 'experts' of their day criticising them!

Hi all,
I would its Barmy Army needs killing instinct & enough home work before they face any opponents.
I would love to mention, that Ausies are working hard for this ashes since they lost last one.. They worked on each & every player thoroughly. They know exactly where to bowl to whom.
Where its clearly shows that Andrew's team haven't done enough home work. Fielding & Other plans were not made in advance. Just take a simple example of Ricky.
Initially he is lazy & plays shots across the length any bowl, which is in middle stump. I am watching each & every match... there was not a single bowl bowled to him in middle stump & the results we all know.
Other then this they also need killing instinct, which they lost AT ALL, this is the reason why it’s becoming a panic for each & every one. See Kevin he is one of the person who loves to play strokes frequently who he did in last series. But here see Strike rate is less then 40%, he needs to score on poor balls. Which he is not doing? Result.... he is not out in thirties or forties by facing N number of balls & the score of entire team is around 200+.
Hehe but still i feels that if they feel confident they can force this match to a draw. My wishes are there with them. And one more message for Barmy Army.
Teacher teaches something & then takes then exam where life takes exam first & then teaches something.
Keep learning & get going.
I am sure they would have next Ashes.
Regards,
Santosh

I agree with giggs is 007, it is not the players that is the problem, it is the media. Had you noticed that before the ashes 2005, the press had not said anything about the ashes until we won the edgbaston test. It is the same with our footballers. Before every tournament, the press are all over the national team. Quotes like "is this englands year?" regurlaly get published. Just like tim henman used to be. t happens to everyone. Football, Rugby, Cricket, Tennis.

The England team is useless. However, as few other answers also point out, the media is always over-inflating them (same is true about the Indian team and media)........They won the Ashes last time merely by chance.........Now their true colours have been exposed!!

Because the English cricket side can not handle pressure, there chokers, and need to sustain their mental tuffness to even get close to Australia.
The English media, are dreamers, they like to stir the pot and they are full of sh*t.

Becaue they are playing against tough opponents, which are rated No. 1 in the world and that too in their own country.

the problem with most sports men and women in England is not there ability. its the expectation the press put on them, and then the nation follows. go and live in another country, bar the states, no other press hound dogs expect their country to win everything and then slag them off when they lose.
