The first answer was right.

The commonly given figure of eight hours is actually too much. A huge study a few years ago showed that people who slept less than 4 hours a night, or more than 7 hours, lived shorter lives than those on 5 - 6 hours.

I've heard of people training themselves to sleep less. If you're used to 8 hours but want to sleep less you need to start reducing it a little at a time. You'll feel more tired a first, but in the long run the science shows you'll be healthier and more alert.

Personally, I aim for 7 to 8 hours of sleep if I want to look fresh the next morning without bags under my eyes. But have a quick read of this:

An American study linked life spans with sleep amount and found that those who sleep 4 to 7 hours live longer, with those sleeping less than 4 or more than 9 hours having about a 30% increased chance of early death, similar to moderate obesity[1]. However, The National Sleep Foundation maintains that 8 hours of sleep is optimal, claiming improved performance in tests, reduced risk of accidents and a better immune system.[citation needed] A widely publicized 2003 study[2] performed at University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine demonstrated that cognitive performance declines with less than eight hours of sleep.

Average hours for an adult is 6 to 8 hrs. But if u always dream while sleeping, especially nightmares, u will tend to feel tired. as for the eye bags, do not drink any form of water before sleep. if required, drink warm water an hour b4 bedtime.

Ideally 8 hours sleep a night but they say that 1 hours sleep before midnight is worth 2 after!

Every person is a little different, but the average is 7-8 hours for adults, more for adolescents. Just as important as how long you sleep is that you go to bed and get up at the same time every day.

It depends on your age. If you're younger you need more sleep. An average adult needs about 8 though. To help get rid of those bags just in case you don't get enough sleep, because none of us do, try St. Ives Stress Gel. It works pretty well.
