If you have a modem and windows xp you can. Go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Windows Components. And add windows fax services. After that in your list of printers you should be able to print to fax and a wizard should start.

You may need to go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> Fax -> Fax Console -> Tools and look around in the configuration options to get it going.

You just need a Fax modem. And there are probably on-line services that let you do this as well.

With a fax modem, you basically print the item to the fax number. I use to do this all the time, but haven't used it at all in the last 4-5 years.

If you have a Fax modem, and if you're plugged in to a telephone jack, you can do it. Check your machine's hardware; Fax modems are pretty common. Then, see if you have the software to use the service (under Windows XP, for example, look at All Programs > Accessories > Communications > Fax).

Answer is yes if you are residing in US or Canada. Faxzero lets you send .doc and .pdf files to any fax machine in the above two countries. Though they place a little ad over the sent document and one can send only 2 faxes per day.
