Actually, social skills will take you much farther than brains - society values social skills more! There are plenty of very smart people who can't lead - sorry to the person above, but intellectual intelligence doesn't automatically guarantee social intelligence, that is a fallacy.
There have been many studies done on this already. Check out info on "EQ", Emotional Intelligence. It will explain why the person who isn't necessarily the smartest should be the one you promote, say when the CEO has just died or was fired and all the little directors are fighting - who do you want to promote? The one who's easiest to get along with & keep the peace between all these different factions, of course

Normally a person will value the thing most which he/she does not possess.
Also, intellect is what we inherit whereas social skills can be acquired.
