For spring break I want to go road tripping in the U.S. I'm not sure where my friends and I will be going yet, but we would certainly appreciate your general tips on navigating (we dont have GPS), what to take, safety, finding attractions, costs- anything.

Also, tips on avoiding bad experiences on the road trip. We do want to enjoy the whole thing.

Thankx!

Road trip!! Fun stuff if you are prepared.
Service the car you will be driving before the trip. All fluids, belts, sparkplugs etc.
Get an extra set of keys made for the car and wire them on somewhere underneath the car you can reach easily. Give an extra set of keys to someone else on the road trip. This will avoid the whole waiting for hours in the middle of nowhere for a Triple A because someone locked the only set of keys inside.
For safety, learn how to change a flat tire, self defence, have a buddy system and carry a tire-iron under the front seat.

Have your car inspected by a mechanic before you go, to make sure there arent any obvious things that are about to go wrong on your car.

I have travelled extensively in the US and Europe. I find that it's most fun to have a general idea of things you probably want to do, and a general timeline but not to overplan. If you get somehwere and everyone is having a blast, then don't leave just because it was in your plan to be somehwere else. Also don't be afraid of the "speedbumps" on your journey. Some little things that happen that suck at the time (like not finding a hotel and you have to sleep in the car) sometime smake the funniest stories and greatest memories later on. The last thing I would say is to make sure the people on the trip all have the same general idea of how you'll do things. For example 2 friends of mine went to Paris together. One guy wanted to party late and sleep all day while the other wanted to see the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre and stuff. They both ended up arguing the whole time and spent the trip hanging out in Paris alone. Anyway I hope this helps. Good luck! Have fun.

You will have a good time if you plan your trip well. Just carry enough money, and have proper directions to the place wherever you go.
