What I notice is that whenever I drive my Prelude around, I hear a slight rattling noise, like the glass or something is loose. It seems to be coming from the back window where the rear defroster lines run, but I am not sure. It also might be coming from the moon roof but I hear it from more of the back of the car. I am wondering, is this normal? Is something loose and if it is, can it be tightened to not make this noise? It makes the car seem poorly built when I hear that rattling as I am driving. It is especially noticeable when the road is bumpy.

It is a 1998 Honda Prelude. The trunk lid closes securely too. It might be the speakers or the sun roof but I have no clue how to check or where to go to get it checked. Mechanics don't fix car vibrations...I really don't think it has anything to do with my engine either... AHHH

This is not normal. But the best advice would be to take the car to a qualified mechanic. It could be anything from a loose connection to an engine problem.

What year Prelude do you have? I know that the 88-91 preludes have a 2000 RPM exhaust rattle. It's caused by the separation of the inner tube in the downpipe from the outer tube.

If not it could be the speaker grills that are loose. That's what happened to mine. It would make a clunk sound when going over bumps or accelerating fast. The rear speakers were loose and were hitting against the chassis. It also caused my speaker grills to come loose making an annoying vibrating sound.

If its coming from the moon roof, it could be that the moon roof isnt shut all the way. I've accidently hit the moonroof open button and hadnt notice till I heard it shaking. Also check if you have actually left anything in the car that moves around and causes the noise.

Something is definitely loose in the car. but is very unlikely to be the back window. Does your boot carry a spoiler on it? The spoiler might be loose.

If the rattle is muted, then it could be a loose spare or jack in the boot. Or your rear seat mounting could have come loose, or the seatbelt is rubbing against some metal face. Either case you should get it checked.

I had a 1999 prelude with a similar prob. It was the rear strut. The
strut was replaced and problem fixed.

you may check and make sure the trunk lid is closed securley, sometimes the seals go bad and cause them to rattle.

I even have information for you. Your automobile would have loafer pulleys yet purely one serpentine belt tensioner. in case you won't be able to tell the adaptation which pulley is which, have a mechanic examine it out.
