That's just a log file of installations from a Windows installer. Its from a windows update called "Security update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0"

As such, it is safe to delete.

No, that is a Microsoft patch. The folder name is randomly generated to extract the patch, and the msxml file references the patch number (in this case KB927978) and has a log of the install I think. It's safe to delete the whole folder. Definitely not a virus.

If you don't have virus protection there are free ones you can use to scan your puter. Go to yahoo and type "free scan" there will be a list services out there. Trend Micro Scan is a good one it will take a couple of hours to scan your computer but it will tell you if any malicious bugs are in your puter. It will let the operator choose which spyware/virus's to keep or delete. You can also go to Lavasoft and download a spyware blocker for free but it will slow your puter down a bit when its searching.

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.

i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.

besides, firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

download firefox for free, Just have a try:
