As a child, I have always been taught to have great dreams. But building castles in the sky has led nowhere. Somewhere along the way, I have discovered that it is not the dream that is important but the actions you take towards a goal. But are all great dreamers destined for failure? Those with high expectations beyond their means are setting themselves up for some degree of failure, are they not? Is the ardent dreamer often too entangled in his dream to really acheive something in real life?

By all means, dream. It was once said that if you don't dream, you can never have. Of course by just dreaming, you can never have either. You must work towards you dreams. One step at a time.

It would be true to say that setting high expectations beyond their means is to set yourself up for some degree of failure but i would ask you this: Which successful person or dreamer has never met failure but yet succeeded?

They say success is a poor teacher and there is a chinese proverb that says failure is success' mother. So in order to have success, you must first have failure.

The key is to dream and to work towards it. You may fall along the way but remember to learn from your failures and continue on.

Think of it this way as someone once told me: If you want to get a rocket to the moon, you don't just aim at it and fire away. The only way you can get to the moon is to get the rocket up and every so often make some course adjustment and you will get there. Does is mean you cannot make a mistake? No. It just means that if you make a mistake, just alter your course so that you are back on track again.

Just like your dreams, if you want to get there, start walking and remember to make course adjustment along the way.

You have to consider yourself lucky that you have been taught the power of dreams since you are a child. But, I would like to stress out the fact that dreaming if not the same as building castles in the air. They are two different things.

Firstly, I would answer all your questions:
-No, they are not destined for failure, they are destined for success after a lot of failures.
-Yes, they are in some way; but eventually they will be successful after going through layers of failures.
-You might have a point, but we should not be ardent dreamers. We should balance dreaming and doing what it takes to get what we want.

Yeah, you have a point, but I would disagree with you in this poin: it is not the dream that is...but the actions... I think that dreams and the actions you do have to be in equal proportion. Imagine you keep doing work, day and nights; but you do not know what you do it for. You do not have a destination. En route you just keep working and working; but do not know what is the purpose.

Similarly, imagine you keep dreaming to be a successful entrepreneur, without taking any action. It will be nothing.

Hence,
DREAM + HARD WORK = SUCCESS

all great and ardent dreamers are not destined to fail,,,,,, as you said, it depends on if you take the steps to make your dreams a reality,,,,,,, perhaps along with some luck and fate and good timing,,,, no, you cant just build castles in the sky, you must step by step also build the ladder to reach that castle,,,,,,,, and while you may not reach the final goal,,,,,, your progress along the ladder can bring you success to different degrees,,,,,,

Each of us has a dream but the difference between realising it and not realising it is the middle part where you have to take the necessary steps and make the necessary sacrifices. Of course some things are completely beyond our individual control but there is more than one way to realise dreams. Most dreams are failed not because of a lack of wanting to take steps but not knowing which steps to take and early. I believe that in western society most of us have the means. Our potential is limitless but we are our own worst enemy. As you grow older and you learn about life and reality your dream fades. We also learn acceptance and more tolerance. Dreams that used to burn with desire are quelled with fear, comfort, security. They die. We accept that it has died. Sometimes we are obsessed with the dream and not knowing the steps to take or trying to take an easy way often leads to wasted time that you can never get back. We need to learn to take the steps and then each of us can realise our dreams.

I don't think dreams can be too big. The question is, are you taking the necessary steps to make them come true? If you just wish for something great to happen, then your chances are really slim. However, if you make a list of the steps it is going to take to get to your dream, and then you start taking those steps, then anything is possible!

I think it is the seriousness of the dream, as in, how serious you are about what you want.
If it is something you can do without, so it will be.

If we seldom think about it, yet, in our heart, it's our great desire, then, we will achieve it.
