I am a little confused. I was in the Marine Corps for 4 years, I spent 2 years over seas but not at a time of war. I understand war is scary, I understand people die from both sides.

What I cannot comprehend is the winy people out there (like this guy in the army) who protest sending troops to war.

When you join the military are you not committing yourself to serve your country at any cost? Are you not signing up for any war, any place, any time?

These people take advantage of all the benefits the military has to offer but when it comes time to do their job, they wine and complain.

And then we have the protesters who have obviously forgotten what happened on 9/11. These countries ALL harbor terrorists. With the exception of Israel, they would love to see the US fall.

I am sorry to see any of our men and women die in action, but what these people dont realize is that these men and women loved what they were doing. AND THEY SIGNED UP TO DO IT...

If there were a daft I would re-consider my thoughts, but alas, you have to physically go down to the enlistment office and sign up!

It is sad to see your family not come home. Would you be happier to have your wife or husband or child go to work one day, and never return home with thousands others because of a religious statement (terrorist)? And yes, terrorists do attack the US when we are not at the top of our game!

Hey thanks for the good wide range of comments..Honestly, nobody ever sees eye to eye, but i do appreciate the responses.

One more addition:
For those people lovers out there. lol j/k

Is it a good thing when a evil dictator whom has EXECUTED hundreds of innocent people (that we know of, prob ordered the death of thousands) is put to death? Be honest, if he was not put to death his regime would continue to murder and massacre..

actually "emerge", I hope you sleep good tonight and then tomorrow when you go to work I hope you dont fear that a bomb will go off in your office because someone wants to make a religious statement.. Oh yeah, I forgot, The price i put on my family's freedom and safety is 100 bucks per head..How could you worry about cost. We are a country that in the past 100 years has surpassed every nation in the known world. Dont worry, our next democratic president will raise taxes and tell everyone it will be used to pay off our debt.

I agree. Lack of knowledge of history is the leading reason. They don't understand what drives these people or the nature of their mind set... The Armed Forces are supposed to fight. If your friend, spouse or child/relative dies in the line of duty what did they expect? Military GI Bills and benefits are great but ultimately there is more to it... Sorry to rain on their parade but people die in the defense of freedom we have...

What do you see when you watch the media about the war. Nothing but negative comments. What about the nightly news? They always show bad things first, then the last few minutes throw in a couple good things. The government is also a high contributor to the negative feelings towards the war with all their lies. People want the truth and want to see what good all their hard earned dollars are going towards. Not many see this Iraq war as nessassary. And what about Osama, where is the focus on him as the original terrorist mastermind? I see your point, people that join the military should not whine because things changed out of their favor. But its another thing when they feel the same way as the public. Trust me, the images of the war we see at home are terrible and I'm sure we dont see a quarter of what there really is.

I think when people signed up for the military, they assumed they would be fighting a war that made at least some sense. Maybe they won't agree with it exactly, maybe it will really suck and they will get shot at... but at least it will be a war for the right reason, that is winnable.

This current war just seems so obviusly stupid. Yes all these countries harbor terrorists -- but you can't go blowing the ALL up... you have to focus on the worst of the worst. Afganistan and bin Laden were the ones who attacked up -- we started the job there (and were doing pretty well!) but then decided to randomly focus on Iraq instead. Why Iraq -- who knows? Iran was a much bigger threat, S Korea is developing Nukes, and 18 of the highjackers were Saudi Arabian... Iraq was not even on the top 10 biggest security threats. But we attack them, and are suprised that our troops are demorlaized, the public does not support it, that we cannot win...

it's so sad. Every time I read about these kids dying in Iraq for no good reason I get sad.

That's right when you signed up you gave up the right ot make an informed decision and act upon it for yourself , you are compelled to follow orders.People are protesting because lives are being taken not by the forces of nature, disease, accidents,or old age etc but by people pulling triggers or pushing buttons
So your compatriots loved what they were doing and they believed they were right , that doesn't make it right. The military forced it's way into Iraq on the back of a blatant lie " We have irrefutable proof that Iraq has Weapons of Mass Destruction". Irrefutable proof, and to this day not one has shown up, not one! The events of September 11th are a scar on the face of humanity and a crime against America. How does the devastation of the lives of thousands upon thousands of innocents appease that violation.
Does satisfaction travel at 1600 feet /sec from the muzzle of an M16.
How is any country served by tearing up the homes of another. So you pursue Bin Laden why don't you go and look where he is you've been every but there. The courage and dedication of your countrymen is not at question , why you are where you are is and your government has no good answer.
You are keen to see justice served , then how should Japan respond to having an Atomic bomb dropped on them after they had surrendered. How should the Kurdish people be appeased after being persuaded only by the promise of U.S.military assistance , to raise up against Saddam Hussein only to be abandoned at the last moment not once ,but twice. We know how Saddam dealt with the Kurds
Go now into the homes of the fatherless, motherless, armless, legless, sightless, childless and tell them that your country so far away is being served. This is what the people protest about and the day that anyone walks into war and no-one protests don't bother about carrying ammunition for we are dead already.
If serving your country is what you want then listen to the words of two of your Titans. " Americans should not ask what their country can do for them but what they can do for their country "and the other man who lived to conceive a dream , the dream of a country living in peace " For I have been to the top of the mountain and I have seen the dream " Both these men dreamt of an America that lived in pursuit of the ideals that founded your nation, justice ,equality, liberty and probably exactly why they died.
These men battled for these ideals on their home soil and their blood is testament to their love.
So if you are prepared to die for your country do it in old age with a smile on your face and a gladdened heart from enriching the lives of those around you rather than taking it from others living abroad

Your right and your wrong!!! You are right when you join the military that's a risk you take going to war! No draft was in effect to force them to go!!!
Now your wrong because many people are protesting about the iraqi war which has nothing to do with 9/11! Ben Ladin was responisble for 9/11 not Saddam!!!! With your theory then we should stomp all over the middle east with the exception of israel. Our mission was to get BEN LADIN the terrorist responisble for 9/11. We should have Gotten him dead or Alive before starting a war in another country!!!!!
President Bush Painted the war on Iraq to the American Public as the war on terrorism!!!! That's what the issue and the uproars are about!!!! There are many people who still believe we are in Iraq fighting terrorism over 9/11.

You're right. Individuals who voluntarily enlist or are commissioned into the military should not reap the benefits of military service unless they are fully prepared and willing to take whatever comes with said service.

I don't agree with the conflicts we are involved in at this time. However, I do appreciate that these people are doing a tough job during a tough time

I merely want to assert that even nonetheless i think of we would desire to continually no longer be in Iraq anymore would not propose i do no longer help our troops. i think of it is previous time to hold our squaddies homestead-yet understand they gained't return till the interest is finished. I say a prayer each and every night for human beings like your husband and the folk the place you reside. If it wasn't for their braveness to combat for those they love then we would not have the liberty we rejoice with on the instant. i'm proud to assert I stay in American and happy with those representing our united states. I blame part of how human beings view our militia on the media. Why is it that throughout uncomplicated terms the undesirable issues some squaddies do is unfold everywhere in the information whilst the thoughts of squaddies who've helped communities on no account aired? human beings continually want to take heed to the worst approximately others. I surely have many pals interior the armed centers and the failings they see are issues we gained't even think of. i think of extra human beings could understand that the adult men and ladies they're protesting against are somebody's family individuals member. Be proud that they have desperate to combat for what they carry expensive-freedom.

people don't like troops be sent to war because many of them die. simple as that. none of us like our family and friends going off to never come back. especially when this war could have been avoided in the first place. i think the military should be more about defense and less about offense.

Since you are so "gun ho" about it why dont you reenlist. Have you seen the death toll for this war-not to mention the money we are spending on this-"lied in the first place to have a war war"Now we are in a hole that we cant seem to dig ourselves out of, we are at risk now more than ever, we have lost honor and respect that we once had.

Because it isn't just a military force. It is a group of people. They are meant to protect the United States and they can best do it from our shores.
