takes practice. try jumping first, landing flat on your board. Once you go that try low boxes and rails, keep your board flat and balance like a mother. Keep tryin you'll get it.

Try some ride-on boxes first... the wider the better. This way you can just ride straight onto it without having to jump. Go straight, it's called 50-50, and just ride off. The key is to keep your board FLAT. If you go on edge at all, you will slip off and fall.

Try to head straight for it so you can make it all the way to the end. If you start heading towards one side or the other, don't correct yourself. It will feel natural to try and turn using your edges, but again, this will make you fall. Just ride off one of the sides if you're headed that way until you can make it all the way to the end.

Something that helps with most of the park features/tricks (buttering, nose/tail presses, boxes, rails, etc.) is to widen your stance a bit. This will lower your center of gravity and improve your balance. Find something that's comfortable; too wide and your legs/knees will start to hurt, too narrow and you won't have as good of balance. Fiddle around with it, see what works.

Once you can master riding on and off 50-50, try boardslides, coming from the side, rails, switch... check out some websites for other tips. Good luck!

when learning to do tricks start small. if your terrain park is too intimidating you'll have to find natural jumps somewhere else. but start off with small airs and grabs, tuck yourself so not to loose balance in mid air. and when doing rails (i know they are scary because they are unforgiving) but the best way to do them is with speed. if you go slow you are more likely to slip off or catch an edge. start with the ones lowest to the ground. good luck - 10 years riding
