Here is something I've thought about but never asked anyone, why is it when something happens in our society the people in the entertainment business are alway quoted as if they have the "final answer" to many issues. I think this is so INSANE...when did this begin asking them for their solutions to problems they are not qualified to answer? I'd like to know your feelings are they like mine or am I off base? What is your final Answer to me? Thanks in advance.

This isn't true only for Americans. It's pretty much true for the entire human race. I agree that it's silly to look to stars as if they are experts on everything. Perhaps it's because people believe that since they are well known that they have "made it", so they have some kind of knowledge others don't.

Because the celebs are masters of publicity. They use and manipulate the system as a means of advertising themselves. I did have a chance to run into one celebrity couple that has been all over the news lately. They do all this work, and criticize the West for not helping the impoverished around the world. In reality, they don't give a damn about those people. They're manipulating a system to make themselves look so magnificent and noble in the eyes of their fans.

The problem is that there was a lot of money to be made talking about these people, and an entire niche in the field of journalism was made just for them. They became heroes to everyone since not everyone in America knows about the Police Officer in Chicago who rescued a kid from a burning building. So in the absence of heroes, people find substitutes. And these actors and celebs fill the void. It's not insanity, actually it's perfectly natural, but the celebs manipulate it in their favor to keep themselves in the public eye and in work.

By the way, the only celeb who ever did stand up to the challenge was Sonny Bono who said enough was enough and ran for public office.

You are not "insane". You are perfectly normal with your head firmly attached in reality. I am just as perplexed as youas to why we look up to celebrities. Who, in their right mind, thinks that any celebrity has the final say on any issue, political or otherwise.
Just because they have a substantial amount of money doesn't mean they are educated in societal issues in any part of the world.

I think you're right. Take Jennifer Aniston & Brad Pitt for example. Every single day there was something on the news about their divorce. I got divorced 10 years ago & I'm not a millionaire so the world didn't cry out their eyes out for me. I don't care what celebrities say.

Because we are all naive idiots who have no sense of mental function, and would rather look to the nearest bimbo for medical advise, and odds are, the bimbo knows nothing about medicine.
We like the easy route. Especially if it comes from people we know and trust, like celebrities (Sarcasm for the idiots who can't read). And, we all know the Jessica Simpson is fully qualified to tell us anything intelligent (Sarcasm again folks)
