No it is because the tools man used at that time were made of stones and wood. Just as the Bronze Age was called that because the majority of tools used then were made of bronze. Right now is considered the Technology Age as we are just leaving the Industrial Revolution Age.

The Stone Age 13.000B.C.to8.000B.C is referred to as such because at that time man had not begun to use metals
They relied on innovation and use of naturally found materials to provide the necessary things to aid their survival at the end of the last ice age. For making domestic utensils they made simple pottery and carved animal bone and wood with stone flints. This was also an easier was to start fire.
They did build simple houses of wood and brush. While others still used cave dwellings. Actual building with stone did not begin until the very last years of the Stone Age.
As man was still a hunter and gatherer he did not require permanent structures for housing for they were continually moving, following the migration of animal herds.
To kill the animals they made stone tipped wooden spears.
There is some evidence of their building simple stone cairns as
boundary markers and to lead them to known wells caves etc..

The ages are named according to the most advanced tool/weapon material available.
Stone
Neo-lithic (new stone)
Bronze
Iron
From here the names changed to reflect man's educational status
Dark ages
Middle ages
Rennaisance.
Laterthe British monarchy lended their names ie
Elizibethian
Georgian
Victorian
Its just humanity's fixation with slapping a label on everything.

Oddly enough the stone house wasn't common until the Bronze and Iron ages.
